Legend Chapter 3 Summary

Day

  • The next day, Day is yanked out of sleep and dragged outside for sentencing. There's a huge crowd chanting outside, and Day is brought up onto a platform.
  • He notices that Commander Jameson and June are both there for the event. Another thing surprises him—the crowd is cheering, but there are also people who are booing. Protestors are being led away by the police.
  • The judge delivers the sentence and says that Day will die by firing squad in four days. They start dragging Day back down the podium, but before he goes he glances at June, who seems to be uncertain about what she's doing.
  • Instead of going back to his cell, Day is led up to the roof where Commander Jameson says that he's going to be chained to a stand for the next two days. She also says that it's June's job to check up on Day to make sure that he doesn't die before his execution date.
  • The situation is terrible and painful, but Day doesn't think of himself—he thinks of his brothers instead. He has to save them.
  • Day slips in and out of consciousness and flashes back to his Trial, where he was asked tons of questions. At the end he thought he'd done well, but they took him to a lab in order to experiment on him.
  • As the sun is about to set, he sees someone coming out of the elevator and approaching him.
