How It All Goes Down
- Daniel feels like his childhood is ending as he boards the train that's supposed to bring him to his Yale alumni interview.
- He tries to write poetry but isn't finding much inspiration.
- The train stops abruptly and the lights turn off.
- A few minutes later, the conductor makes an announcement over the PA system. Rather than explaining that they've had an electrical issue or an engine failure, the conductor decides it's a dandy time to deliver an evangelical sermon.
- As he wraps up, he tells everyone the train's out of service, so they should go look for God.
- "We all get out of the train, somewhere between relieved and angry. Everyone's got someplace to be. Finding God is not on the schedule" (45).
