How It All Goes Down
- Natasha's running five minutes late, and the receptionist at UCSIS won't let her see with Karen Whitney, who's already meeting with someone else.
- Natasha is displeased.
- A man named Lester Barnes says he'll meet with her.
- Unfortunately, he doesn't have good news. Her file is red, her appeal was rejected, Karen Whitney doesn't know what she's talking about, they're being deported.
- Natasha's not a cryer. She asks him if there's really nothing he can do.
- Apparently, Natasha's dad got a DUI, which is what tipped off the authorities to the family's undocumented status.
- Lester Barnes tells Natasha that he's been to Jamaica and it's fun and everything is irie.
- This is not the right thing to say.
- Natasha burns everything to the ground, saying she knows he stayed at a fancy resort and didn't leave because he was concerned about his safety. She doesn't know her family in Jamaica. She doesn't have an accent. She's going to miss prom, graduation, and college.
- "Do you have any idea what it's like to not fit in anywhere?" (22)
- She gets up to leave. He says, "Wait."
