The Raven Boys Chapter 39 Summary

  • Blue arrives at Gansey's apartment to find it empty, but when she calls out into the emptiness, Noah comes out and pets her hair a little bit (as always). He tells her that he can only really appear when she's around.
  • Noah fills Blue in on the whole Adam family saga, and she feels awful for him. He also tells her that Ronan is at the library for once in his life, studying for an exam—now that Gansey's gotten him another chance at Aglionby, he has to try to get decent grades.
  • The phone rings and Blue jogs over to answer it. The man on the other line is someone named Roger Malory, and he wants to tell her that he tried the ritual with his friend and it went very poorly. As in, his colleague stepped out of his skin and bled a lot. Yikes.
  • After she hangs up with the man, she hears Gansey and Adam come into the room, obviously upset from their recent fight. Adam's carrying a bunch of his stuff and is followed by Ronan, who has a lot of Adam's luggage, too.
  • Blue tells Gansey about Malory's phone call, and asks him to tell her what happened with Adam. He just says that it's all a horrible mess, and that he can't believe that Noah had to die for him to survive.
  • Adam reenters the room and says that they have to go do the ritual. They have to beat Whelk to it—otherwise, he'll control the ley lines and he'll have all the power.
