The Raven Boys ends on a frustratingly open-ended note. First of all, the trees have told the boys that Glendower is buried somewhere… but they haven't found him yet. And the last line of the book is dropped by the ever-mysterious Ronan Lynch without any explanation:
"I guess now would be a good time to tell you," he said. "I took Chainsaw out of my dreams." (48.50)
By ending the tale with this intriguing tidbit about where Chainsaw the raven came from, the book is baiting readers and setting the scene for the next installment. After all, The Raven Boys is just the first book in a four-book cycle, and so even though Gansey and his friends are on the right track when it comes to all this ley line stuff, they're just at the tip of the iceberg. The story has just begun.
