- When Gansey leaves his parents' house, he's agitated over what he's done. He managed to keep Ronan in school, but only at the cost of bribery. He really is becoming his father—a rich, condescending jerk.
- A half hour outside of Henrietta, Gansey's car breaks down… again. He pulls over and checks his cell phone, only to discover that he has no reception. Great.
- He gets out of the car and locks it, intending to walk to the nearest gas station, but a car pulls up behind him. It's Mr. Whelk, and he has a gun pointed at Gansey's head.
- Well, this is an awkward way to run into your Latin teacher on a weekend.
- Mr. Whelk demands that Gansey hand over his cell phone and leather bound journal, and then starts ranting about how the police are on his trail even though he's hidden his crime for seven years. With a sickening lurch, Gansey realizes that Mr. Whelk is the person who killed Noah.
- Mr. Whelk puts the gun up to Gansey's forehead, and he realizes that his Latin teacher is about to shoot him. And that's the moment when Gansey swings his arm, knocking the gun to the ground.
- At that, Whelk runs back to his own car and Gansey hides in a ditch for a long time. After a while, he climbs into his Camaro, which starts working after some encouragement. He races towards Henrietta.
