- Gansey wakes up in the middle of the night to his cell phone ringing. He sees that it's Dr. Roger Malory, a British ley line expert whom Gansey talks to on the regular about their collective research.
- Malory tells him that he's found an interesting textual source suggesting that ley lines are dormant. They are present, but inactive—which means that they can be difficult to find with mere energy readings.
- He also reveals that the text states that there is some kind of ritual that you can perform in order to wake the ley lines. They'll then show Gansey how to get to Glendower.
- After talking to Malory, Gansey decides to go see if Ronan's awake. But when he gets to Ronan's room, he realizes that his friend isn't there. He calls his phone number… no one picks up.
- This fills him with immediate dread, and he calls Adam to tell him that Ronan is gone. Ronan disappearing after a fight with Declan is not a good thing. But Gansey feels badly about asking Adam to sneak out of his home, too, because Adam's dad will definitely hurt him if he finds out.
- Nonetheless, Adam agrees to check the park and the bridge before he hangs up. When Gansey looks up, he sees that Noah is there. He doesn't ask Noah to go look for Ronan, though, because Noah was the one who found Ronan in a pool of his own blood six months ago.
- Gansey just gets dressed and goes out to check out St. Agnes Church, which is where the Lynch brothers go every single Sunday, even if they can't stand each other.
- When he enters the church, he sees that Ronan is there—stretched out on one of the pews and totally drunk. He's also harboring a tiny baby raven in his hands, and he says that he's going to take care of it from now on. He's even named it Chainsaw.
- Gansey sighs and takes Ronan back to the apartment, feeling guilty for dragging Adam out of his house and asking him to look for Ronan. He hopes that nothing bad has happened.
