- The next morning, Gansey goes to pick up Adam as usual… but Adam isn't waiting by the group of mailboxes at the entrance to his neighborhood. Gansey doesn't go deeper into the neighborhood because Adam's parents aren't exactly friendly toward Aglionby boys.
- He waits for a while, but Adam doesn't come out or answer the house phone. Feeling sick, Gansey drives back to school. Adam doesn't show up for Latin class either, which means that he's skipped class today.
- As Gansey and Ronan walk to class, he notices that Ronan has a bigger bag than usual, and that Ronan is being awfully careful with it. He realizes that Ronan is carrying around his baby raven because it still needs to be fed every two hours.
