- Adam goes to Cabeswater by himself, feeling all nervous because he's alone in the dark. But when he steps into the woods, he finds that the whole place is lit up as though it's the middle of the afternoon. Weird.
- As he's walking, he trips over something—it's an empty bowl—and when he looks around, he sees that there is another bowl filled with dark liquid. This means that someone else is already here.
- Neeve takes Whelk into the woods, wincing when he says that she's obviously going to kill him. She tells him that she's going to sacrifice him, which is different because sacrificial offerings come from a lovely and old tradition. Is she being sarcastic?
- As he walks to his doom, Whelk thinks about how he misses his old life—all the money and privilege that he had before his dad was arrested. He even misses Czerny, even though he tries not to think about killing his best friend.
- Neeve turns around to get her knives, and Whelk takes this opportunity to grab a heavy branch and bring it down on her head. She falls down, and he ties her up with the ropes that she used on him.
- When he turns around, though, he sees that he's not alone. Nope, Adam Parrish is looking at him.
- Blue, Gansey, and Ronan arrive at Cabeswater, and find that on Noah's Mustang, a message is written: "Murdered." They are pretty sure that Noah is writing that word over and over again in order to send them a message. He can't appear in front of them, though—he doesn't have enough energy.
